What it does
A skin booster is an injectable that goes into the skin rather than under it. It adds no structure and it will not change your jaw. It works on hydration, texture and firmness across a whole area over a few weeks.
We use two. Profhilo is a very pure hyaluronic acid that spreads under the surface and works mostly on hydration and laxity, given as two treatments a month apart. Polynucleotides are a repair-led product, given as three, and they are the one we reach for around the eyes and on skin that has taken a lot of sun.
Men's skin is thicker, oilier, shaved daily and usually less protected from the sun. It responds well and it responds slowly. Nothing much happens in week one.
This is the treatment men come back for. Once something structural is done, skin quality is what is left, and it is most of the difference between looking treated and looking well.
Is this you?
- Your skin looks dull and flat by the end of the week
- You have had structural work done and something still looks off
- Fine lines that are in the skin rather than in the muscle
- Years of sun, or years of shaving, or both
How it goes
-
Consultation, 10 minutes
A doctor looks at the skin itself under proper light and tells you which product suits it and how many sessions it needs. If the honest answer is a decent routine and a sunscreen, you get that answer instead.
-
Treatment, 20 minutes
Numbing cream first, then a grid of small injections across the area. It is the most fiddly treatment we do and the least dramatic to sit through.
-
A month later
Second session. Profhilo works as a pair. Polynucleotides work as a three.
-
Six to eight weeks
This is when you see it, and when the photographs start to differ.
Results
Same light, same angle, same distance, no retouching.
Nothing here yet. New results go up as patients consent to them.
A photograph goes up here only once the man in it has signed a consent form for that exact use. We would rather show you nothing than show you somebody else's stock photo, or a pair shot under two different lights.
Will anyone notice?
That is rather the point. Skin boosters do not change your face. They change your skin quality over a few weeks, and people tend to say you look well without being able to say why.
Works as a course, not a one-off. Two treatments for Profhilo, three for polynucleotides. Doing one and stopping is a waste of money and we will tell you that before you book, not after.
From £325
Priced per session and as a course. The course price is lower and it is the one we recommend, because a single session of either product is not a result.
Includes the consultation and aftercare. Reviews between sessions are free, as they are for everything else.
Who does it TBC
Every treatment at SkinBros is carried out by a doctor registered with the General Medical Council.
We do not build individual profiles for the doctors who treat you, because we would rather you trusted the clinic and the standard than a name on a website. Your doctor will introduce himself, and he will give you his GMC number if you ask. You can look any doctor up on the register yourself.
Every appointment starts with an assessment, and part of a doctor's job is to tell you when the answer is to do nothing.
Questions
What actually is a skin booster?
An injectable that improves the quality of the skin rather than the shape of the face. It goes in just under the surface across an area and works on hydration, texture and firmness over a few weeks. It does not add structure and it will not change your jaw.
Do I have to do a course?
For a real result, yes. Profhilo works as two treatments a month apart, polynucleotides usually as three. Doing one and stopping is a waste of money and we will tell you that before you book rather than after.
Will anyone notice?
That is rather the point. Skin boosters do not change your face. People tend to say you look well without being able to say why. It is the treatment men come back for once they have had something structural done and realised the skin is what is left.
Does it hurt?
It is uncomfortable rather than painful. We use numbing cream first, and the filler itself contains a local anaesthetic. Anti-wrinkle injections feel like a scratch and are over in a couple of minutes. Most men tell us it was less than they expected.
How is this different to filler?
Filler adds structure in a specific place. A skin booster improves the skin across an area. Plenty of men end up doing both, for different reasons.
