What dermal filler actually is

Dermal filler is a hyaluronic acid gel, placed under the skin to add structure where there is not enough of it. Hyaluronic acid is something the body already makes, which is why the same family of product is used all over the face, and why an enzyme can dissolve it if you change your mind.

On a male face it is a different job to the one most clinics do all day. Male features are treated by widening and squaring where female features are lifted and softened, and the doses are usually higher because the tissue is thicker. Same product, different plan, different result.

We use it in five places: the jaw, the chin, the nose, the cheeks and under the eyes. Each has its own page and its own published price, because vague "from" pricing on filler is how a clinic avoids telling you what it will cost.

It fades over nine to eighteen months depending on the area and on you.

Is this you?

  • You know something in the lower face has softened and cannot name it
  • You have read about filler for months and never booked a consultation
  • You want a price before you talk to anyone
  • You want it done by a doctor rather than by whoever is available

Will I look done?

Filler looks obvious when it is used to add volume to a face that did not ask for volume. It looks like nothing at all when it is used to restore a line that used to be there.

The way we keep it on the right side of that is boring and it works: treat one area properly rather than four areas lightly, start below what you think you want, and review at two weeks before adding anything. Anything we place can be dissolved.

Every filler price includes the consultation, the treatment, the product, aftercare and your two-week review. We price by treatment, not by unit or by syringe.

Questions

Filler questions.

How long does it last?

Usually 12 to 18 months, depending on the area, the product and how quickly you metabolise it. Men often metabolise filler slightly faster than women, which is worth knowing before you compare notes with anyone.

Does it hurt?

It is uncomfortable rather than painful. We use numbing cream first, and the filler itself contains a local anaesthetic. Anti-wrinkle injections feel like a scratch and are over in a couple of minutes. Most men tell us it was less than they expected.

Is it reversible?

Yes. We use hyaluronic acid fillers, which can be dissolved with an enzyme. That is one of the main reasons we use them. Anti-wrinkle treatment is not dissolvable but it wears off on its own in three to four months.

Will I bruise?

You might. Any injection can bruise, and using a cannula rather than a needle reduces it a lot but does not remove it. If you have a wedding or a big meeting coming up, leave a week.

How much product will I need?

Most men need 2 to 3ml for a first jawline treatment, and that is what the price covers. If a doctor thinks you need less, you will be told and you will pay less. We do not charge by the unit, so nobody is doing sums at your face while you sit there.

What if I do not like it?

Come back and tell us. We will either adjust it at your two-week review or dissolve it. Neither conversation is awkward for us and it should not be for you.

Do you charge per unit?

No. You are quoted a treatment price and that is what you pay, whatever dose you turn out to need.
