What it does
Lip filler on a man is a different treatment to the one you have seen on the internet. The aim is usually to restore a border and some hydration, not to add size.
Most men who ask for it have a top lip that has flattened, an outline that has blurred, or corners of the mouth that have started to turn down. A small amount placed along the right line addresses the first two, and a little at the corner addresses the third.
The dose is the whole difference. We work at well under a full millilitre for a first treatment on most men, and we would rather do two conservative appointments than one obvious one.
Nine to twelve months, and dissolvable.
Is this you?
- The outline around your top lip has gone soft
- Your mouth turns down at the corners when your face is at rest
- Your top lip has thinned and your smile shows less of it than it used to
- You want it to look as though nothing has been done, which is the whole reason we would do it
How it goes
-
Consultation, 10 minutes
A doctor looks at your mouth at rest and smiling, and at how the lip sits against your teeth. If what you want is a visibly bigger mouth, this is where he tells you we are the wrong clinic.
-
Numbing, 20 minutes
The lip is the most sensitive area we treat, so the cream stays on longer. The product also contains anaesthetic.
-
Treatment, 15 minutes
Small amounts along the border and at the corners. Swelling for a day or two is normal here and it is more than you will expect.
-
Two weeks later
Free review. Lips settle more than anywhere else, so the two-week appointment is the one that matters.
Results
Same light, same angle, same distance, no retouching.
Nothing here yet. New results go up as patients consent to them.
A photograph goes up here only once the man in it has signed a consent form for that exact use. We would rather show you nothing than show you somebody else's stock photo, or a pair shot under two different lights.
Will it be obvious?
Not at the doses we work at. On men the aim is a defined edge and some hydration, which is a much smaller amount of product than most people picture when they hear the words lip filler.
If you want a visibly bigger mouth, we will say so and we will not do it. That is not the brief here.
£325
1ml
Includes the consultation, the treatment, up to 1ml of product, aftercare and your two-week review.
Most men use less than a full millilitre. The price is for the treatment either way and you are not charged extra for the rest of the syringe.
Who does it TBC
Every treatment at SkinBros is carried out by a doctor registered with the General Medical Council.
We do not build individual profiles for the doctors who treat you, because we would rather you trusted the clinic and the standard than a name on a website. Your doctor will introduce himself, and he will give you his GMC number if you ask. You can look any doctor up on the register yourself.
Every appointment starts with an assessment, and part of a doctor's job is to tell you when the answer is to do nothing.
Questions
How long does it last?
Usually 12 to 18 months, depending on the area, the product and how quickly you metabolise it. Men often metabolise filler slightly faster than women, which is worth knowing before you compare notes with anyone.
Does it hurt?
It is uncomfortable rather than painful. We use numbing cream first, and the filler itself contains a local anaesthetic. Anti-wrinkle injections feel like a scratch and are over in a couple of minutes. Most men tell us it was less than they expected.
Is it reversible?
Yes. We use hyaluronic acid fillers, which can be dissolved with an enzyme. That is one of the main reasons we use them. Anti-wrinkle treatment is not dissolvable but it wears off on its own in three to four months.
Will it be obvious?
Not at the doses we work at. On men the aim is usually definition and hydration rather than volume, which is a much smaller amount of product than most people picture.
Will I bruise?
You might. Any injection can bruise, and using a cannula rather than a needle reduces it a lot but does not remove it. If you have a wedding or a big meeting coming up, leave a week.
